(01) — STATEMENT OF FAITH

What holds us together.

Across different organizations and traditions, Unity in Christ is grounded in the historic Christian faith.

Unity isn’t uniformity.

Unity in Christ is UC Berkeley’s Christian inter-organization group. We promote unity among Christians on campus, empower one another in prayer, service, and evangelism, and support new students seeking churches and Christian organizations.

We create space for representatives of organizations to share information, talents, and ideas; encourage one another; publicize events; and work toward a greater knowledge of the diversity of Christ’s body.

Our common confession.

We affirm our common faith in the following convictions. This statement is the shared center of UiC’s ministry and service.

  1. The unity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit: one God existing in three persons as an eternal fellowship of holy love.
  2. God’s sovereignty in creation, revelation, redemption, and final judgment.
  3. The divine inspiration, truthfulness, and supreme authority of Holy Scripture.
  4. The universal sinfulness and guilt of humanity, and our need for God’s mercy.
  5. The full deity of Jesus Christ: his incarnation, sinless life, death on the cross, bodily resurrection, and present reign.
  6. Deliverance from sin only through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ, our representative, substitute, and mediator.
  7. God’s undeserved mercy, by which repentant sinners are pardoned and accepted as righteous in God’s sight.
  8. Justification received by faith alone through the righteousness of Christ.
  9. The Holy Spirit, who regenerates, equips believers for holy living, and empowers faithful witness and service.
  10. The one holy universal Church, the body of Christ, to which all true believers belong.
  11. The future personal return of Jesus Christ, who will judge every person with perfect justice.
